Please respect the property rights of others and do not trespass onto private property, closed forest service, federal, state or county roads that are closed. If you are not sure if the property is privately owned or of the road status, do not travel on it.

You can check the status of US Forest Service roads at the USFS Interactive Visitor Map.

Tow Vehicle Requirements

Frequently asked questions relating to required tow vehicle weight capacity and trailer hitches

The trailer has a dry weight of 2,725 lbs. With the water tank full it weighs approximately 2,925 lbs before any gear or other items are loaded.

Your tow vehicle must have a towing capacity of at least 2,725 lbs. Capable tow vehicles are typically a truck, 4-door (Unlimited) Jeep or a mid/large-size SUV.

If you are not sure what towing capacity your vehicle is rated for please contact us through the contact form or e-mail and we are happy to assist you.

The tow vehicle must be equipped with at least a Class 3 receiver hitch that has a 2-inch receiver size.

Class 3 receiver hitches are typically mounted on SUVs, trucks, vans or crossover vehicles. They are rated to tow up to 8,000 pounds with a tongue weight of up to 800 pounds and have a 2-inch receiver size.

Class 4 receiver hitches are typically mounted on trucks and SUVs. They are rated to tow up to 10,000 pounds with a tongue weight of up to 1,000 pounds and have a 2-inch receiver size.

Class 5 receiver hitches are typically mounted on full-size, heavy-duty trucks or large SUVs. They are rated to tow up to 16,000 lbs with a tongue weight of up to 2,400 pounds and have a 2-inch receiver size.

This article from Curt Manufacturing provides a good overview of the different classes of receiver hitches and their towing capacities.

The trailer is equipped with a Max Coupler high-articulation, multi-axis hitch that fits into a  2-inch receiver. This design is different from the standard 2″ ball hitch.

The Max Coupler hitch design allows the trailer to move freely with the tow vehicle, as it is able to travel both upwards/downwards but also left and right. A ball hitch would either bind or severely limit the trailer movement on off-road terrain.

The hitch is provided with each rental and there is no need to bring your own receiver hitch and ball.

The tow vehicle must have a connection for a 4-way or 7-way trailer wiring connector.

The trailer is equipped with a 7-way connector plug. A 7-way plug controls the left and right turn signals, brake lights, running lights and side marker lamps, and the electric brake controller output.

The trailer’s electric brakes also require a trailer brake controller mounted in the tow vehicle to function. The trailer brake controller is integrated into the vehicles such as modern pickup trucks, or it can be installed as an aftermarket accessory.

If your vehicle only has a 4-way connector plug an adapter will be provided at no additional charge.

A 4-way connector plug controls the left and right turn signals, brake lights, running lights, and side marker lamps but it does not provide the electric brake controller output. The trailer brakes will not function with a 4-way connector plug.

If you have not towed a trailer before or if it has been a while and you need a refresher we can help.

Please contact us through the contact form or e-mail prior to booking your trip and we can arrange towing orientation and driving lesson as part of your pick-up and departure session.
